“Then all these things shall be added unto you”

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33   This wonderful commandment of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ comes with not just a mandate but also with a promise! It is proceeded by our Lord’s declaration of the value the Father places on us by admonishing us not to worry about what we would eat, drink or wear but rather to trust in His unfailing love and put our efforts into knowing Him and trusting in His goodness! He will always take care of His children because He is a good, good Father!

Jesus came into the world fulfilling this promise in Isaiah 61:1-3: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” And after fulfilling His assignment on this earth by reconciling man back unto the Father, He returned back to the Father and left us with the very same commission spoken in Isaiah.

2 Corinthians 5:17-20 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ…”

As I meditate on these wonderful words breathed by the Holy Spirit my heart is stirred towards the Great Commission! He was sent to the “least of these” which pretty much sums up every one of us! In some form or another, we were the imprisoned, the bound, the broken hearted, to which He has brought liberty. And He has expressed special concern for children, for orphans and for widows. Matthew 19:14 “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And in James 1:27 “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” We show our trust and faith in Him when we take the time to reach out to the lost and those whom Jesus called the “least of these” who are overlooked and ignored. We become the conduit by which the love of the Father reaches those in need.

One way that we can be Jesus’ hands and feet is by financially backing a ministry that is fulfilling the Great Commission. There are many ministries out there and so plentiful are the opportunities to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven by giving. But, I can say with utmost confidence Vision Beyond Borders is fulfilling the Great Commission of our Lord and I can think of no better place where one could align themselves with the heart of our Father and truly seek first His Kingdom than by placing their support behind this ministry.
