Dreams or Encounters?

sleep cycleHave you ever woken up from a dream at night with a phrase stuck in your head that made perfect sense in your dream but when you awoke you were pondering the meaning of it because after you awoke, it no longer made sense to you at all? When we have a dream, sometimes it’s just a dream. Sometimes, we may have just had pizza before bed and we know that our dream is just a result of the day’s events and emotions as our brain processes what we’ve seen, watched on the news, our current and distant memories. But other times, it seems as if a dream catches our spirit in such a way that we know we are having a God encounter. We wake up wishing the dream would continue because in that place we were having an intimate experience with God.

In one such dream, I was walking side by side with Jesus on a dusty road, on a hill that was surrounded by olive trees. The setting seemed to be in Israel. It was as if we had been walking and talking for quite some time. Jesus was just talking to me as a disciple…“Anger, to me…” he said, “is a means or a launcher, of another medium; the journey.” Ok, that makes perfect sense when you are asleep and dreaming but once you get out of the alpha state… not so much! *Hilazon10s

I woke up abruptly because I had fallen asleep with a light on and it had mildly disturbed my ability to enter the deep, good sleep that I needed. What had started out as a mild irritation, however, became so annoying that it woke me up from my dream state and I could stand the light no more. After hours of lesser quality rest, I finally got up and turned off the light. Then I started pondering the dream. “Anger… Jesus had anger? and he’s telling me about it in my dream!” My own anger about the light being on was enough to start me on a journey from the bed all the way to the bathroom to turn it off! Anger, can settle down in our emotions and make us bitter because we feel deprived of something or it can serve us as a means of launching us into action! We can use it as a medium by which we can change our situation!   But Jesus? When did He experience, anger? And does He still experience it?

It seemed as if, through the dream, Jesus was trying to give me a metaphor. By having me get agitated enough by the light disturbing my sleep, I would actually get up and do something about it. He was also telling me that He understands. Ephesians, tells us to be angry and sin not. We can have the emotion of anger and allow it to cause us to want to change something. We are not able to force other people to change but we can change ourselves and how we respond to the things that cause us to feel these agitating feelings, in the same way that light disturbing our sleep can agitate us enough to get up and turn of the light!

Jesus had experienced such a moment when he drove the money changers out of the temple. The Bible says he made a braided rope whip to drive out the money changers and He did it to fulfill the Old Testament Scripture “Zeal for my house consumes me.” He knew the Old Testament prophesies about Himself. But I don’t think he was sitting there emotionless saying, “Ok, now I think it’s time for me to sit here and fulfill prophesy number five hundred thirty eight.” He was a real guy, with real confrontations to his emotions. He knew He was fulfilling these prophetic words as they served as a guide and a revelation to Him throughout His whole life of all He was to be and do.   But as a man, He was tempted in all ways like us, yet without sin. He had to take the time to pray, and to seek His father, often during the midnight hours in order to do only what He saw His father doing. For He said, I do only what I see my Father doing.

God gives us the same ability through Jesus, so that we could also be in fellowship with the Father and hear and see what He wants to do and then accomplish it through Him! Sometimes, the things we see in the daytime disturb us and make us very angry about the world.  In seeing the injustice, abuse and suffering or phony baloney all around us we sometimes feel in ourselves that we are powerless over such evils. We may feel that is that we can’t do anything about it so “why even try?” But that is not God would want His people to do right now. He wants us to draw away with Him and to come unto Him in the night hours, the day hours, on our break at work, in the car on the way to our job, and at every opportunity seek Him to see what He wants to say and do through us.

earthIn another dream that I had around that same time, I was in outer space looking back at the earth and I was cheek to cheek with God. I saw the beautiful planet earth suspended there by Gods power and then began to see little lights all over the planet. And I heard the voice that was next to my cheek whisper to me “You know… if people could see from my vantage point, they would know that it is not Spirit to spirit…(how I operate in the earth) But Spirit THROUGH spirit. (My Spirit through my people’s spirit.)

Ah! This was, again, a refreshing encounter with the one who made me using the frailty of a dream to tell me another mystery. We must want Him! We must want to walk in the Spirit not to fulfill the lust of our flesh. He said “a new heart I will put within you and give you a heart of flesh and take out the heart of stone!” He wants to walk with us day by day, not merely with us as God on the outside… but in us and through us… for Christ is the fullness of Him who fills all in all. “But we all with unveiled face beholding, as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Sometimes a dream is just a dream. Dreams are like words on the wind that need to be tried and measured according to the word of God for accuracy. The Book of Hebrews chapter one says that in times past, God spoke to us through the prophets but now He speaks to us through His Son through a personal relationship:

“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke

in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

has in these last days spoken to us by His Son,

whom He has appointed heir of all things,

through whom also He made the worlds;

who being the brightness of His glory

and the express image of His person,

and upholding all things by the word of His power,

when He had by Himself purged our sins,

sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

having become so much better than the angels,

as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”

So, Grandma was right! (My born-again bible believing Grandma was anyway!) Much better than a visitation, from an entity, or an angel or some vague sign, or dream, awareness or aura, GOD wants to have an intimate relationship with you through his Son Jesus Christ living inside of your spirit and you being filled to the brim, with His Holy Spirit. When that happens, this scripture becomes true in your life:

“…you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.”

He prefaces that with the warning:

“Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.”

The Lord promises that if we call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved. That word “saved” is not a scary “religious” word or joke for making fun of on T.V. sit coms. It means we need to be close to Him that we may know Him personally to find out that we’ve been saved from our sins and been given so much more, including eternal life! If this burns in your heart and you long for this type of relationship why don’t you just stop and pray right now, even using your own words that say something like this:

“Lord, I know I have sinned against you. I am a sinner by nature. But I believe that you died for my sins and that you rose from that grave for me and ascended to the right hand of God. Thank you for the blood that you shed for me.  Thank you that the cross of Calvary is not just a song, or a necklace but it was real, rugged and sickening. You were love-sick on that cross for me as you bore my pain and my sins. Thank you for spilling every last drop of your blood for me and washing me clean so that I am no longer a sinner. I ask you to come live inside of me and fill me up with your Holy Spirit. Thank you for providing the Bible for me to learn about you and I ask you to teach me all about you through it! Come Holy Spirit and fill me up with all that You are!

It doesn’t have to be exactly like that. My first prayer of this kind simply said… “Jesus, come into my heart! I want to be saved!” I was five and no one else made me do it or pushed me in that direction. But it was enough to take me into the first steps into a relationship with God. I wanted Him! It was a love encounter that I will never forget! If you have prayed this, let me welcome you because you have taken the first step in The Journey… only in this case, unlike my dream, you got fed up with the darkness instead of the light!  Tell someone about it! Connect with other people who have surrendered to Him as well. Eat—devour the scriptures daily!  You will never be the same!   LC
